n Margaret Schick was named director of development and communications at Cornerstones of Science in Brunswick. Most recently, Schick served as the director of annual giving at the University of Southern Maine. Before that, she worked in development and communications at Bowdoin College.

n Nathan Waller joined Norton Financial Services as a securities clerk. Waller, of South Portland, was previously in relationship and client service management at Key Bank. He is a 2009 graduate of the University of Maine.

n Seth Storey joined Diversified Communications as an e-marketing manager. Storey previously worked for Burgess Advertising & Marketing in Portland.

Liz Fallon was hired as a customer service representative at Diversified. Fallon previously worked for PureWire Publishing in Portland.

Michelle Whitney joined Diversified as a customer relationship representative. Whitney was previously employed with Stella & Dot, San Francisco.

n Dr. Karin Doehne joined Maine Medical Partners Primary Care as part of its Falmouth Internal Medicine practice. Dr. Doehne was previously with the Southern Maine Medical Center PrimeCare Physicians practice in Old Orchard Beach.

n Five individuals were sworn in at the Maine Department of Corrections central office as adult community corrections officers. The five officers will serve statewide: Lori Lamma, of Belfast; Roxanne Austin, of Ellsworth; Alicia Cummings, of Portland; Nicole Lenda, of Lewiston; and Marshall McCamish, of Lewiston.

AWARDS and RECOGNITIONS

n Short Sands in York Beach was recognized by Family Vacation Critic as one of the top 10 best beaches for families in the United States. It’s the only Maine beach included on the list.

n Epstein & O’Donovan, LLP in Portland recently received a Metropolitan Tier 1 Ranking in the 2014 Edition of U.S. News – Best Lawyers’ Best Law Firms for Trusts and Estate Law. The firm, which was established in 1992, has four attorneys and focuses its practice in the areas of wills, trusts, probate and related matters.

n Lisa Geyer, a 28-year employee at Community Partners, Inc., was awarded the Direct Support Professional Excellence in Care Award at a statewide conference in Portland. She was recognized for her “commitment to respectful and enduring relationships,” her supervisor, Doug Watson said in a news release.

n The Chadwick Bed & Breakfast in the West End of Portland has received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award. The award is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor, and is extended to qualifying businesses worldwide.

n Jennifer Amnott and Keith Belanger recently completed an intensive training program to become certified CruiseOne Vacation Specialists in Saco. As a result of the certification, Amnott and Belanger now have access to cruise and land vacation deals and CruiseOne’s exclusive, elite product and service offerings.

BOARD APPOINTMENTS

n Michael Bigos and Benjamin Gideon, partners at the Berman & Simmons law firm in Lewiston, were selected for posts by the Board of Governors of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association.

Bigos, of Auburn, was named a Revitalization Governor for the American Association for Justice Board of Governors. This position is reserved for only one lawyer in each state. Gideon, of Freeport, was named a State Delegate.

Bigos and Gideon join a third partner at Berman & Simmons, Daniel Kagan, in service to the AAJ. Kagan, also of Freeport, has served on the AAJ Board of Governors since 1998.

GENERAL

n Shelton Waldrep was appointed the University of Maine System Trustee Professor. Waldrep, of Cumberland Center, is an English professor at the University of Southern Maine, where he teaches courses on Victorian literature, popular culture, film and critical theory.

The appointment will offer him more time and resources as he continues work on his manuscript, “Future Nostalgia: Performing David Bowie” (Bloomsbury), which explores Bowie’s career as a musician and icon by looking at key moments in his career that defined a new age of music, film and art.

n TL Studio, located on Congress Street in Portland, recently celebrated a grand reopening just one year after opening last year. TL Studio has remodeled and added new hair designers, spa professionals, services and products.

n Anne Theriault moved to the The Maine Real Estate Network located at Tidewater Farms, 75 Clearwater Drive in Falmouth. Theriault has over 15 years of experience as a multimillion-dollar producer and full-time real estate broker. She is a member of the National Association of Realtors and the Maine Association of Realtors and the Greater Portland Board of Realtors.
