BRUNSWICK — Muriel C. Dufresne, age 91, of James Street, died Friday, May 30, 2014, at Horizons Living and Rehab Center. She was born in Brunswick, on Oct. 14, 1922, the daughter of Alderic and Albina Belanger Richard.

Muriel entered Mt. Merici Academy at the age of 6, upon the death of her mother. After four years, she transferred to St. John’s School when her father remarried the former Alma Nadeau. She graduated from Brunswick High School and, on May 30, 1942, married Paul A. Dufresne.

She worked at Senter’s Department Store for several years, and then stayed home to raise a family during the 1950s. She returned to the work force doing office work for the Topsham Air Force Exchange and later, the Naval Exchange Office. She also worked at Downeast Concepts in Yarmouth.

Muriel loved to knit and sew and enjoyed listening to live music at both concerts and musical theater. She was a volunteer at the Chocolate Church Performing Arts Center. The true focus of her life was her family, beginning with her children and extending to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by sons Richard Dufresne and his wife Jolyne of Kennebunkport, and Paul Dufresne and his wife Suzanne of Buxton, daughter Marie Dufresne of Brunswick, grandchildren Michael Dufresne and his wife Beth, Jon Dufresne and his wife Julie, Jason Dufresne and his wife Lyn, Patrick Dufresne and his wife Pamela, Andrew Dufresne and his wife Shawna, and Shannan Houlette and her husband Tom, great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Sydney, James, Emily, Lochlin, Mairin and Cailin Dufresne and Madison, Spencer, Jackson, and Charlotte Houlette.

She is predeceased by her husband Paul Dufresne, who passed away on March 8, 1994, after 52 years of marriage.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, June 14 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick, where a funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. A reception will follow the funeral at the Stetson’s Funeral Home Reception Center. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery beside her husband will be at a later date.
