I would remind Mr. Levesque of the MRRA that before he pats himself on the back for paying back what he owes the U. S. Navy that those assets he is selling and leasing were bought, and paid for by the U. S. taxpayers and written off by the Navy the minute they were built.
Any money gained by their sale or lease should be credited to the U. S. taxpayer and not the Navy. That includes all of the revenue being generated.
I would also remind Mr. Levesque that he has also spent nearly $200 million in grants and many more millions to come in state subsidies. If they had followed advice in 2007 when they were first getting started with this government fiasco it would have cost only $30 million to leave it like they found it and anyone buying or developing the land would have not needed any more taxpayer money to do so.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
You can read more here about our commenting policy and terms of use. More information is also found on our FAQs.
