OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide (1-3) defeated the Torrington Titans (1-3) in a close game, 3-2, on Sunday at The Ballpark.
Zack Kirby had a remarkable game on the mound, pacing the Tide to its first win of the season. He worked seven innings with five strikeouts, one earned run and no walks.
The bullpen went out and proved to the rest of the FCBL what its made of. Joey Royer took the mound in the eighth inning, retiring all three batters he faced to earn the win. To close the game, Dakota Edwards shut down the Titans with another 1-2-3 inning and was credited with the save.
The key play of the game was in the bottom of the eighth inning, when a 2-1 pitch from Justin Robarge squirted away from Titans catcher Timothy Budd and Graham McIntire took home to put the Tide in the lead for good.
The Raging Tide’s next game is on Tuesday when the team travels to face the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks at 7 p.m.
