SOUTH PORTLAND — Replicas of Christopher Columbus’ ships, the “Pinta” and the “Nina,” will be docked at South Portland Marina, 14 Ocean St., from July 3-11.

The ships are a “sailing museum” operated by the Columbus Foundation, which is based in the British Virgin Islands. The “Nina” was built completely by hand, without the use of power tools, and the “Pinta” was recently built in Brazil, a larger version of the archetypal caravel.

While in port, the general public can pay an entry fee to visit the ships for a walk-aboard, self-guided tour. The ships are open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. No reservations necessary.

Teachers or organizations wishing to schedule a 30-minute guided tour with a crew member should call 1-787-672-2152 or email columfnd1492@gmail.com.
