How timely was your editorial “Yes, All Men” from Tuesday’s opinion section. I was catcalled by a teenage boy from a passing car on a side street in downtown Brunswick midday Tuesday.
Really, dude?
I’m well past fifty, so this clearly was a gesture to benefit the perpetrator’s own ego and impress his companion. Even so, after reading the editorial, I made a point to tell my husband about the incident when I got home. The confused look on his face said it all. The vast majority of good men have no inkling of how pervasive this is, and they won’t unless women SPEAK UP rather than just suffering in silence.
Even if it’s #notallmen, # yesallwomen bear the brunt of this.
So, # whoraisesthosecretins, anyway?

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
