A bird banding demonstration will be given at the Wells Reserve at Laudholm Wednesday, June 18 from 7 a.m. to noon. Master bander June Ficker has been studying birds at the reserve for more than 25 years and has banded thousands of birds during that time. The second annual Sean Patrick Carlin Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser will feature comedian Juston Mckinney on Thursday, June 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Jimmy The Greeks, 215 Saco Ave., Old Orchard Beach. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. This scholarship fund was founded by Old Orchard Beach High School graduates, in memory of their friend Sean and to raise awareness for suicide prevention. “Picture This,” a fundraiser to benefit The Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals, will take place on Thursday, June 19 from 6-9 p.m. at the Italian Heritage Center, 40 Westland Ave., Portland. The event will feature the works of select equine photographers, a silent auction, music, complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. All ticket sales, silent auction proceeds, and all donations will be used to feed and care for the many horses that make their homes at the society’s barns. The Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Hagerty will start on Beach Street in downtown Ogunquit on Saturday, June 21 at 10 a.m. This classic car event is known worldwide as the premier old car rally, and spans more than 2,000 miles each year, featuring pre-1972 cars and trucks, which are battling for $150,000 in prize money. More than 100 vehicles are competing in this year’s Great Race, with the oldest being a 1915 Hudson. The event is free for the public to view. The kickoff of the event is on Beach Street in downtown Ogunquit, and spectators will have a chance to see more than 100 vintage vehicles. Wayne Carini, star of the hit TV show, “Chasing Classic Cars” is the grand marshal and will wave the green flag as the cars take off from the starting line.
