ON SUNDAY, JUNE 22, local historian Barbara Desmarais will lead the first in Pejepscot Historical Society’s Summer History Walking Tour Series. Participants will tour historic Varney Cemetery, located between Bath Road and Pine Street in Brunswick. The monument to the Varney family — who lent their name to the cemetery — is pictured above. On the walking tour, Desmarais will tell stories of the lives and work of people buried there, including the area’s African-American community. The tour will depart from the Pine Street entrance to the cemetery at 1 p.m. Please call Pejepscot Historical Society at (207) 729- 6606 to register.
