ERIE, Pa. — Steven Moya led of the ninth inning with a solo-homer off Robby Scott (6-2), giving the Erie SeaWolves (30-38) an 8-7 walk-off win over the Portland Sea Dogs (44-24) on Monday in the series opener at Jerry Uht Park.
Scott fell behind Moya 2-0, and yielded his first homer of the season. The lefty suffered just his second loss and gave up a run for only the third time in 15 appearances.
Bryan Augenstein (2-1) retired all seven batters faced to earn his second win of the season against Portland.
Erie jumped out to a 7-0 lead, knocking Portland starter Keith Couch out of the game in the fourth inning after 10 hits and seven runs. The outing was the worst for the right-hander in Double-A, and just the third time in his career he gave up seven runs or more.
Ramon Cabrera gave the SeaWolves a 1-0 lead in the first inning, delivering a two-out RBI single. In the second, Erie scored three runs on RBIs from Dixon Machado (double), Jaime Johnson (single) and Devon Travis (single). Erie added three more in the fourth off Couch. Johnson led off the frame with a triple and scored on a sac-fly by Jason Krizan. Moya and Cabrera added run-scoring singles.
Portland responded in a big way in the fifth, scoring five times with two outs. Heiker Meneses started the rally with a walk and scored on a single by Deven Marrero. A second run scored on a throwing error by the catcher. The Sea Dogs capped off the rally with back-to-back homers by Blake Swihart and Sean Coyle.
Erie starter Jeff Ferrell worked 4.2 innings on nine hits, five runs, one walk and three strikeouts.
The Dogs made up the seven-run deficit, tying the game in the seventh inning off Ryan Robowski. Jonathan Roof laced a solo homer to lead off the frame, his first in Double-A. Marrero tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Stefan Welch.
Mike McCarthy tossed 3.2 scoreless innings in relief of Couch. McCarthy allowed just a one-out triple to Machado.
The Sea Dogs and SeaWolves get back at it with game two of the three game series tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Jerry Uht Park in Erie. Former Sanford Mainer Mike Augliera (3-5, 4.78) is set to go for Portland and will be up against Erie’s Tommy Collier.
Pena suspended for 100 games
NEW YORK (AP) — Boston Red Sox minor league pitcher Miguel Pena, currently playing for the Sea Dogs, has been suspended for 100 games for a third positive test for a drug of abuse.
The commissioner’s office announced the penalty on Monday for violating baseball’s minor league drug program.
The 23-year-old is 2-2 with a 6.41 ERA in 13 starts this season.
The suspension is effective immediately.
Johnson named E.L. Pitcher of the Week

PORTLAND — The Eastern League has selected Portland Sea Dogs left-handed pitcher Brian Johnson as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 9-15.
In two starts during the week, Johnson posted a 2-0 record with a 0.75 ERA and 11 strikeouts over 12 innings. In his first outing of the week, on June 10, the lefty fired six innings and allowed one run on four hits, while walking one and striking out six against the Altoona Curve in a game that Portland won 5-1 at Altoona. On Sunday, June 15, he tossed six shutout innings against the Akron RubberDucks on the road. Johnson allowed just four hits, walked one, and struck out five batters as the Sea Dogs shutout Akron 8-0.
