GONIC, N.H. — Shirley Zook Proulx, 75, died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at her home, after a period of failing health.

Shirley was born in Biddeford, Maine on Oct. 11, 1938, the daughter of Peter and Pauline (Hurd) Zook.

She had been living in Gonic for the past 50 years, moving from Somersworth.

She was a 1957 graduate of Biddeford High School, and prior to her retirement, she worked as a secretary at the University of New Hampshire.

She enjoyed golf, belonging to the Nippo Lake Golf Club, and was a member of their women’s league for 25 years. Shirley also enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, crafts and spending winters in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

She was preceded in death by: her two sisters, Mary Desmond and Carol Biggs; her brother, Walter Zook; a grandchild, Chad Riddle; and son-in-law, Darrell Riddle.

Surviving members of the family include: her husband, Robert Proulx of Gonic; one son, Robin R. Proulx and his wife Johann of Boca Raton, Fla.; six daughters, Joyce Betz and her husband Donald of East Rochester, Patricia Edwards and her husband Wayne of Temple, Debra Riddle of Greenwood, Ind., Karen Sulich and her husband Raymond of Canterbury, Conn., April Buckley and her husband Keith of East Rochester and Sharon Kittredge and her husband Scott of Barrington.

She also leaves: her grandchildren, Donald Betz III, Beau Betz, Ebenezer Edwards, Roland Doyon III, Dr. Anthony Doyon, Megan Riddle, Jesse Riddle, Raymond Sulich III, Justin Sulich, Michael Buckley, Anthony Morganelli, Christopher Morganelli, Elizabeth Lord and Abby Kittredge; two great-grandchildren, Lydia Demers and her twin brother Oliver Demers; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to thank Cornerstone VNA, especially Sara Phelan, Jen Loichle, Linda Welch, Jai Bahai and Sigrid Johannessen for all their care and support during this difficult time.

Calling hours will be held at the H. J. Grondin & Son Funeral Home, 177 North Main St., Rochester, on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at St. Mary’s Church in Rochester, followed by burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Somersworth.
