Local students make dean’s list
The following students have made dean’s list at their respective college or university.
Clarkson University: Jessica J. Halfacre, of Cape Elizabeth; Thanh-Phong V. Ho, of South Portland.
Connecticut College: Sarah Bunting, of Scarborough; Mireia Odlin, of Cape Elizabeth.
Lyndon State College: Justin O’Riordon, of South Portland.
University of New Haven: Gable Lau, of Scarborough.
Scarborough student wins for business idea
Kaitlin Rayner, 16, of Scarborough, was among several young entrepreneurs from Maine awarded cash prizes in the Build-A-Biz educational program. Rayner, 16, of Scarborough, won $250 in the Maine & Company KidPreneur story contest about her Errands for the Elderly service. Rayner’s business is run by teenagers who will do errands for seniors, including going to the grocery store or mowing their lawn at very affordable prices. Rya Morrill, 14, of Bangor won a $1,000 scholarship at the Bangor Savings Bank Elevator Pitch Competition. Maiya Koloski, 10, of Portland won $250 in the same competition. The awards ceremony was held at DiMillo’s Restaurant in Portland.
Community supports grads with Dollars for Scholars
By awarding of $35,000 in scholarships to members the South Portland High School, Class of 2014, South Portland High School Dollars For Scholars has awarded a total of $119,400 to 328 SPHS graduates since 2008. By its affiliation with Scholarship America/Dollars for Scholars, hundreds of colleges pledge not to deduct a SPHS DFS scholarship from a student’s financial aid package and about 100 will match the award.
