CARMEL — Karen A. Worcester, 60, wife of Robert A. Brown, died unexpectedly June 16, 2014 in Hermon, as the result of an automobile accident.

She was born May 15, 1954 in Portsmouth, N.H., the daughter of William E. and Ruth C. (Allen) Worcester.

Karen was a graduate of Thornton Academy in Saco and later earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph College in 2004.

Most recently, Karen worked in finance for Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems as the grant accountant.

She lived in the Rangeley area for more than 20 years and was active in the Rangeley community. She volunteered as a firefighter and was one of the first women in the state to be certified as a volunteer firefighter. She served as a selectman and served on the board of the Rangeley Region Health Center. She was also an active member and treasurer of the Rangeley Snowmobile Club.

Karen had many hobbies and interests and was a New England Patriots fan.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; a brother, William Edgar Worcester Jr.; and a sister, Carol F. Petit.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of Carmel, are: two sisters, Martha Rae Lane and her husband David of Winslow and Florence Owens of Irving, Texas; one brother-in-law, Richard D. Brown of Rangeley; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Karen will be deeply missed by many friends, family and co-workers.

A service honoring Karen’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, where family and friends may visit from noon until the service begins.
