SANFORD — After a recount in Augusta Thursday, Sen. John Tuttle remains the winner of the Democratic primary race for Maine Senate District 33.
Tuttle officially garnered 844 votes to Andrea Boland’s 822 votes. Tuttle picked up three votes while Boland picked up one vote, according to Deputy Secretary of State Julie L. Flynn.
The number of blank ballots went down by four, likely due to the people being able to discern voter intent where the machine could not, Flynn said.
“I want to thank Rep. Boland for running a great campaign and making me a better candidate,” Tuttle said in a prepared statement Thursday afternoon. “This election will be about who will be the best voice for working families in York County. I look forward to continuing to meet with and listen to voters in every community in this district.”
Senate District 33 is a new district drawn after Maine’s constitutionally mandated re-apportionment process. It includes the towns of Cornish, Limerick, Newfield, Parsonsfield, Sanford, Shapleigh and Waterboro, according to the statement.
