BIDDEFORD — The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy has invited George Allen, associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the University of New England College of Pharmacy, to participate in its 2014-15 AACP Academic Leadership Fellows Program.

The program is an intensive national leadership and management development program designed to cultivate the nation’s most promising AACP pharmacy faculty members to become future leaders in pharmacy and in higher education. Allen was one of just 30 fellows nationwide chosen to participate in the program, and the first from the UNE College of Pharmacy.

The Academic Leadership Fellows Program is a year-long experience with four intensive sessions in residence spread throughout the year supported by an ongoing informal program of mentoring and introduction to leadership roles at the home institution.

“It is very exciting for Dr. Allen to be selected as a fellow for this AACP Academic Leadership Program, as he has demonstrated the talents and dedication as a successful leader in the College of Pharmacy and the university,” said College of Pharmacy Dean Dr. Gayle A. Brazeau. “I know from my personal experience how valuable this fellows program can be in developing and enhancing one’s academic career as a faculty leader. George will be an excellent representative from the college and UNE at this program.”

The pharmacy program for the University of New England is located on the college’s Portland campus.
