SACO — Nicholas A. Sibilia, 85, died while resting peacefully in his home on June 21, 2014 in Saco.
He was born on Dec. 10, 1928 in Raritan, N.J., to Rocco and Mary Sibilia.
He served on the front lines as a sergeant in the Korean War, receiving commendation for exemplary service.
In 1950, he married Jeanne Newland. In 1964, they designed and built their family home in Readfield.
A successful businessman, he worked his way from the owner to a leading salesman in his profession. Nick and Jeanne moved to Saco in 1997 to be closer to family.
Nick excelled at the role of loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. A consummate teacher, he never missed an opportunity to impart his knowledge and countless skills. Nick was an avid outdoorsman. His greatest passion, fly fishing, brought him to waterways all over the country. He loved family gatherings, dancing, and time spent outside and on the water.
He spent many years as a devoted member of the Saco River Salmon Club, educating and volunteering. He may be recognized from “Bill Green’s Maine” or his time tending a booth at L.L. Bean, promoting the sport he loved. He was a tireless advocate for the conservation of Maine’s natural Atlantic salmon population.
Nick will be remembered as a hardworking, generous, kind, and faithful friend and family man.
Nick was preceded in death by: his wife, Jeanne Sibilia, who died in May; his sister, Julia Sibilia; and brothers, Angelo and James Sibilia.
He is survived by: his four children, Jan Reppond and husband Phillip, Sandy Sherry and husband David, Mark Sibilia and wife Susana, and Michelle Sibilia; as well as his grandchildren, Kelly Sintz, Jen MacDonald and husband Mike, Caitlyn Sherry, Griffin Sherry, Alex Reppond and Caroline Sibilia; great-grandchild, Maxwell Sintz; and siblings, Loretta Steinkopf, Agnes Snook, Elizabeth Fredericks and Peter Sibilia.
