ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — Nigeria’s intelligence agency says it had been warning shopping complexes for two weeks that Islamic extremists planned an attack in the capital before an explosion killed at least 22 people this week.

State Security spokeswoman Marilyn Ogar told Associated Press that the agency received intelligence two weeks ago that Boko Haram extremists were planning such an attack.

Witnesses say a security guard prevented a car bomber from entering the mall. Today, ThisDay newspaper quotes a survivor as saying that shortly before the massive blast a security guard prevented the driver of a car from entering the mall by the exit gate. Moments later, the car exploded. It shattered windows throughout the fourstory complex and set 17 vehicles ablaze.
