A look at our communities through photos.

“Bears In The Tree” is one of the tourist attractions on the L.L. Bean campus in Freeport. Chainsaw sculptor Michael Blaine did the carving in an ash tree that wasn’t salvageable, and posed a safety risk at the location. Freeport’s Merriconeag Waldorf School conducted its high school commencement on June 14 at the school. Graduating seniors are, from left, Emma Dolan, Joe Newlin, Sophia Simmons, Jonathan Gross, John Burgess, Carlin Tindall, Andrew Hastings, Sam Leavitt, Lily Tupper and Dana Kuniholm. This year’s graduation speaker was Patrice Maynard, a former Waldorf teacher who served as the leader of outreach and development for the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America for nine years and director of publications and development for the Research Institute for Waldorf Education. She was also Merriconeag Waldorf School’s first development director. Stephen Young, a vendor at Freeport Emporium on 291 U.S. Route 1, shows off some merchandise, including, at left, a sled that he turned into a lamp. Many of his creations would go great in cottages, Young said. Owner Adam Tanguay opened Freeport Emporium on June 1, and is open for business seven days a week, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
