WINDHAM — William “Bill” F. Bailey Jr., 57, died on Saturday, June 28, 2014.

He was born in Bath, on April 8, 1957, the son of William Sr. and Charlotte (Varney) Bailey.

Bill grew up in Harpswell and graduated from Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham in 1975 and from the University of Maine, Orono, in 1979. He married Cheryl Miller in 1980, and together they raised two children.

Bill treasured family and friends above all else and was also highly involved in his community. He was the District Commissioner of Babe Ruth Baseball, coached soccer and baseball, scheduled the referees for soccer, was an umpire and a referee, and was active with Windham athletics. Bill was also passionately involved with Friends of Shinagawa, a youth organization that assists with sports and cultural exchanges between Portland, Maine, and Shinagawa, Japan. He was currently working as the Area Director for Rural Development in Scarborough and Lewiston, and has been with the USDA for over 35 years. Bill was a Mason, Bar Harbor, No. 185 A.F. & A.M.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Cheryl; his son, Brett Bailey; and daughter, Ariana Bailey, all of Windham. He is also survived by his two sisters, Sandra Green and husband Jere, and Valerie Caron and husband Raymond, all of Harpswell; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents.

Visiting hours will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham, where a Masonic service will take place at 3:45 p.m.

A funeral will be celebrated at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 7, at Windham High School, 406 Gray Road. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com.
