The fireworks displays scheduled for July 4 in Augusta and Jackman have been canceled, with Augusta rescheduling to Aug. 2 and Jackman hoping to move its display to Saturday.

Augusta recreation director Bruce Chase said the show has been moved to Saturday, Aug. 2 — which coincides with a downtown celebration called AugustaFest — because of the predicted rain and thunderstorms on the holiday.

All other July 4 activities in Augusta, including the 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Old Fort Western Independence Day Celebration and 4 p.m. parade, are still scheduled to take place.

The National Weather Service is calling for a 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms during the day Friday and a 70 percent chance of rain Friday night.

In Jackman, officials will assess the weather on Saturday to determine whether the display can be held, according to the state Fire Marshal’s Office.
