On behalf of George, Annie and myself, I wish to publicly thank all the persons who contributed to an academic year-end gift in honor of our son, Frazier Metcalf, at a time when he would have graduated from high school if he had lived.
As many of you know, prior to his death, Frazier was involved in the establishment of RSU1’s Swim for Health Program. Under that program, elementary school students in RSU1 receive, as part of their physical education curriculum, swim lessons conducted at the Bath Area YMCA. This program is fully supported through private donations and particularly from the generous support from local businesses, This year, Bath Savings Institution and First Federal Savings and Loan, once again, renewed their commitment to the fund. With their contribution and the contributions of many private individuals and a matching grant given by our family, over $10,000 was raised this graduation season for the fund. This helps add to the balance to assure that lessons can continue in the next academic year.
It is not too late to give. Please make your gift payable to the Frazier Metcalf Swim for Health Memorial Fund and mail it to: RSU1, 34 Wing Farm Pkwy, Bath, ME 04530. It is deeply gratifying that through these gestures we will know our son will not be forgotten.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
