Heart of Biddeford’s Music in the Park on Wednesday, July 16 from 5:30-7 p.m. will feature singer-songwriter Pete Kilpatrick in Shevenell Park.

Southern Maine Garden Club will have a potluck dinner at 6:45 p.m. at the Springvale Library 6, 443 Main St., Springvale, on Wednesday, July 16. Club Historian Mary Ericson will outline the history of the club. SMGC meets throughout the year at the Springvale Library on the third Wednesday of every month. “The Significance of Animals” will be presented Thursday, July 17 at 7 p.m. at Brick Town House on Main Street in Limerick. Learn how the power of animals has been instrumental in accomplishing goals of logging, farming and recreation. Before machinery, animals did the work, and some of this is still being done today. Presentation by Adele Floyd. Refreshments following.

Alfred Festival begins Friday evening, July 18 with the annual chili, chowder and pie contest on the village green. The festival continues Saturday, July 19 at 10 a.m. with a parade, children’s activities, vendors, performances and more.

The 11th annual “Val Ranco” Native American Powwow is scheduled for July 19-20, featuring music, dance, crafts, demonstrations and more. Animal Medical Associates in Saco is holding its seventh annual fundraiser benefit for multiple local Maine Animal Rescues on July 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the medical center, 838 Portland Road. There will a yard sale, raffles, food and prizes. Animal groups involved include Animal Welfare Society, Lucky Pup Rescue, Buddy Up Animal Society, HART of Maine, New England Border Collie Rescue, Ever After Mustang Rescue, Almost Home Rescue, Animal Refuge League, and the Angel Fund (Animal Medical Associates).
