BRUNSWICK — Madeleine Muriel Savoie, 87, of Brunswick, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2014, in Harpswell. Born Madeleine M. Bouchard, the eldest daughter of Emilliene and Ovilla Bouchard of Twin Pines, Topsham, she married Romain B. Savoie and shared 64 years of marriage. Together they raised three daughters, Carol, Deborah (deceased) and Rebecca and had a stillborn son. She leaves behind grandchildren, Jason, Leah and Cameron and many relatives.

Madeleine lived in a tight knit Franco-American community and was a lifelong parishioner at St. John’s Catholic Church. As the oldest daughter of a large family, raised during the depression, she was unable to finish high school. She was a proud homemaker, skilled at sewing, gardening and home maintenance. She loved being outside in her yard; transplanting trees, painting and keeping everything in good order. A cabinet maker’s daughter, she love projects, fixing things and figuring things out herself. Independent and private, intuitive and hardworking, Madeleine was highly expressive and sensitive. During the summers, she could be found picking berries and enjoying crabs.

When dementia and falls made staying in her home unsafe, she was lovingly moved to the Vicarage, where she received compassionate professional care. Romain grieves her loss and their life together.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John’s Church, Monday, July 14 at 10 a.m. The burial at St. John’s Cemetery and reception at St. Charles Church to follow. The families wishes are, if you wish to make a memorial donation in Madeleine’s name they be made to St. John’s School, 144 Pleasant St., Brunswick, ME 04011.
