PORTLAND (AP) — A former nonprofit executive and Maine gubernatorial candidate will lead a collaborative group that promotes the state’s lobster industry to the world.

The Maine Lobster Marketing Collaborative says Matt Jacobson is its new executive director. Acting Executive Director Marianne LaCroix will stay with the organization in a supporting role.

Jacobson was president and chief executive officer of nonprofit business consulting firm Maine & Company from 2006 to 2011. He came in seventh in the 2010 Maine Republican primary for governor.

Jacobson says his goal will be to “share my enthusiasm for Maine lobster with the world.” The collaborative began in 2013 to replace the Maine Lobster Promotion Council. Maine lobster fishermen, dealers and processors fund the collaborative, which markets and promotes the state’s signature seafood industry.
