PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield starting pitcher Justin Finan needed just 89 pitches to throw a complete game, allowing eight hits and no walks while striking out two as the Suns beat the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide 8-2 in a FCBL game on Wednesday night.
Finan, who entered with a 1-2 record and 5.26 ERA in six previous starts, had a shutout through seven before an Aaron Wilson single drove in Kevin Rooney to get the Tide on the board in the eighth, with Wilson later scoring on an error.
Old Orchard Beach (11-23) starter Zach Kirby allowed three runs ”“ two earned ”“ in five innings, with Pittsfield (21-14) scoring one apiece in the second, third and fourth.
Paul Cotler then homered off OOB reliever Ben Greenberg in the sixth, and the Suns added two more on doubles by Zack Tower and Cotler in the seventh, and then two more on a Dan Polazzo home run off Nate Boyle in the eighth.
Eight different players totaled the eight hits for the Raging Tide, who head to Torrington today for a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m..
