TORRINGTON, Conn. — Aaron Wilson set a Futures Collegiate Baseball League record in the first game of a doubleheader against the Torrington Titans on Thursday. Then, Wilson sat on the bench during the second game and watched as the Tide couldn’t complete a sweep of the twin bill.
Wilson broke the league record for stolen bases in a season with his 28th steal of the year in the Tide’s 5-2 win over the Titans. Wilson went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI in the win, while Paul McDonough also had three hits, including a home run.
Brian O’Keefe pitched a complete-game six-hitter for the win.
The Tide could have used Wilson’s bat in the second game, as Mike Bonaiuto held the Tide to just one hit in a 3-0 Torrington win. Kyle Mendenhall recorded the lone OOB hit with a single in the first inning.
Lincoln Sanborn gave up three runs in three innings for the loss, while Tim Holmes made his debut for the Tide with a hitless two-inning relief appearance.
