SOUTH PORTLAND — Zach Bean drew a 12th-inning walk and scored on Brett Goodenow’s single to give third-seeded Saco & Biddeford Savings of Westbrook a 1-0 victory over No. 2 Moody’s Collision Center in an American Legion Zone 4 semifinal at Wainwright Sports Complex.

Bean, the only player in the game with two hits, pitched all 12 innings to earn the win for Westbrook (13-5), striking out eight while holding Moody’s (15-4) to two hits.

Moody’s starter Tom Hazelton pitched 10 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out 12.

MORRILL POST 11, CUMBERLAND 1: Robert Graff struck out 12 in seven innings of no-hit ball as top-seeded Morrill Post won the other Zone 4 semifinal by mercy rule in eight innings at Wainwright.

Adam Helmke, with four RBI, and Nick Whitten, with three runs scored and an RBI, each had four of Morrill’s 17 hits.Graff added a pair of hits.

FAYETTE-STAPLES 10, SACO BAY PT 6: Ryder Kenney lined a two-run double during a seven-run fifth, Ben Lambert added a two-run single, and Fayette Staples (11-7) concluded its Zone 5 regular season with a win over Saco Bay Physical Therapy (7-10) at Saco.

TWILIGHT LEAGUE

PATRIOT INSURANCE 6, AERO 5: Jack Kenny singled home Damon Wallace in the top of the 12th inning, lifting Patriot Insurance (4-4) over Aero Heating & Ventilating (3-5) at Cumberland.

Robbie Hamilton had three hits, including a home run, and four RBI for Patriot. Kenny and Mike Crowley also had three hits.

Zack Gardner had two hits for Aero.

EDGE ACADEMY 4, LENDERS NETWORK 0: Joe Quinlan scored on a passed ball and Devin Flynn on a groundout in the first inning, setting Edge Academy (12-1) on the way to victory over Lenders Network (3-10) at Cumberland.

Quinlan scored another run in the seventh and Edge won despite getting outhit 8-4.

BABE RUTH

Portland, Windham and Central Maine clinched state tournament titles, and will advance to the New England regionals.

Portland entered Sunday’s play undefeated in the Babe Ruth 13 tourney, but lost to once-defeated Lewiston 11-7 in the first game of the day in Windham. Portland rebounded in the “if necessary” game, trouncing Lewiston 19-0 for a berth in the New England regional in Newtown, Connecticut. That regional will run July 26-30.

Windham also had to go to the “if necessary” game to beat Augusta in the Babe Ruth 14 tournament in Farmington. Augusta forced the second game with a 4-2 victory. Windham came back with a 4-1 win and will play in Westfield, Massachusetts July 25-29 for the New England title.

Central Maine needed only one game to earn a trip to Manchester, New Hampshire, beating Lewiston 2-1 in Augusta to win the Babe Ruth 13-15 championship. The New England Regional is Aug. 2-7.
