George Vaillancourt of Kennebunk recently celebrated his 100th birthday with friends and family at a celebration at Atria Kennebunk Senior Living. Vaillancourt was born in Westbrook. He served in the Army during World War II, and his primary station was in Fort Virginia. He served as a private first class for two years and was stationed in London. Vaillancourt said he loved traveling through Europe, going to the opera at the Metropolitan in New York and symphonies in Washington. He worked as a lawyer for the Justice Department in Washington, D.C. He met his wife later in life on an assignment; she also worked for the government. After his wife, Mary Ellen, died, he decided to move back to Maine. He said he enjoys bird watching, reading the newspaper and watching the Red Sox. He has been at Atria Kennebunk for 13 years.
