PHIPPSBURG

The Town of Phippsburg is holding an anniversary celebration day on July 26th as part of its year-long 200th Celebration. Events include a parade, lobster bake, entertainment, blueberry pie eating contest and a community photo taken from a ladder truck!

The day will start off with a parade at 11a.m. on Route 209 from Stoneybrook Road to the Fire Station. Route 209 will be open to alternating one-way traffic from 9:30 a.m. to 11a.m. while the parade participants line up and then it will be completely closed from 11 a.m. to the completion of the parade (approximately one hour). A detour will be set up from High Street (Route 209) in Bath to Campbell Pond Road, to Meadowbrook Road, to Basin Road to Sebasco Road back on to Route 209 in Ashdale. Spectators should gather by 10:30 a.m. along the Route 209 parade route to view the entire parade.

There will be parking lots and shuttles set up to bring parade participants and spectators from satellite parking areas to the events.

For parade participants, a shuttle will run from Town Hall Parking Lot to the Parade Staging Area (Stoneybrook/209) from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for parade participants.

For festival goers, there will be satellite parking for all the day’s events at Small Point Baptist Church (1754 Main Road) and Phippsburg Sportsmen’s Association (272 Main Road).

Following the parade there will be an Old Fashioned Lobster Bake at Cushman Field (next to the Phippsburg Elementary School) at 12:30 p.m. Cost is $20 per person for Lobster or $12 per person for Chicken. Tickets can be pre-purchased at Phippsburg Town Hall, Bisson’s Center Store, and Pine Tree Service Center or from any Recreation Commission Member ( Michelle Sloan, Joanne Wells, Cathy Thomas or Emily Swizdor). Limited tickets will be available the day of the event.

Also on slate for the afternoon will be an assortment of free entertainment by “The Salt Water Hillbilly” from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.; “T’ Acadie” from 1:40 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.; a Contra Dance from 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p. m.; and Jay “ Tweed” Johnson and “Shy Green” from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Those attending will gather for a Community Photo at 3:00 p.m. (to be included in the Time Capsule which will be opened in 2064) and there will also be a Blueberry Pie Eating Contest at 3:30 p.m.
