WEST KENNEBUNK — Donald Alan Whittaker, formerly of West Kennebunk, passed on in New Bern, North Carolina on June 17.
Don served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Worcester (CL-144) during the Korean conflict.
He graduated from the University of New Hampshire Durham and worked there for many years before moving to Stockbridge, Massachusetts to work at the Bonnie Prudden Institute for Physical Fitness.
Don returned to West Kennebunk in the ’80s, and in 2013, he moved to New Bern, North Carolina.
Don was an avid fan of New England and Boston sports teams, an outdoorsman, and loved working with his hands.
He is survived by: his son, Russell and daughter-in-law Lisa and grandchildren Grace, Summersjoy and Anderson Whittaker; as well as nieces, Lorrie Whittaker, formerly of York, Jerri LaConte of York and Connie Zaleski of Woodland Park, Colorado; nephew, Matthew Whittaker of Las Vegas; and former wife, Enid of Tucson, Arizona.
Many will miss Don’s gentleness, kindness, generosity and humor, including his special friend, Helen Springer of Wells.
Cotton Funeral Home and Crematory of New Bern, North Carolina is handling arrangements.
