LIMINGTON — York County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Bill King said an early morning crash in Limington shut down commuter traffic on Route 11 near Brackett’s Apple Orchards for several hours.
At approximately 4:13 a.m., Richard Chaput, 54, of Limerick, was traveling southbound on Route 11 when he crashed his 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier into a Kubota agricultural tractor operated by Gaetan Paulin, 60, of Limington.
Paulin is an employee of Brackett’s Apple Orchards and was traveling southbound on Route 11 to spray an orchard.
King said Chaput apparently did not see the agricultural tractor as he followed a turn in the roadway, and crashed into the back of it. Chaput was injured, and Limington Fire and Rescue had to extract him from his vehicle due to the extensive damage. He was transported to the Maine Medical Center in Portland, where King said his injuries were listed as non-life-threatening.
Paulin, the operator of the tractor, was shaken up, but did not require medical attention. The spray chemicals being hauled by the tractor did not pose a threat to the community, King said.
