BOOTHBAY HARBOR, (AP) — Police are continuing to investigate a crash in Boothbay Harbor that left two teenagers dead.
The Lincoln County Sheriff ’s office says the teens were in an SUV that was traveling at a high rate of speed when it went off Route 27 early Wednesday morning and struck several trees.
The driver, 19-year-old Casey Dalton of Boothbay Harbor, and a 17-year-old whose name was not released by police were pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff ’s office later said that 21-year-old William Gerardi, of Hebron, Connecticut, had been charged with furnishing liquor to a minor in connection with the crash. Lt. Rand Maker said Gerardi allegedly provided alcohol to the teens prior to the crash.
Investigators had not yet determined whether alcohol was a factor in the accident.
Bail for Gerardi was set at $5,000.
