The Op/Ed by Pontius and Cambereri in the July 22 Times Record makes many worthwhile, and vital points, but I’ll mention only two.
First, the obvious one intended by the authors — caring for the environment ( and ourselves) is NOT a political, partisan issue, any more than a burning building is.
Second, and perhaps less obvious but perhaps more important, if we are to save ourselves from this burning building/climate, we need a new approach, a new way of thinking, as exemplified by Pontius and Cambereri. We need all, but especially the youth, to turn their creative, innovative, minds to this crisis and ways of dealing with it.
It is to be hoped that their Op/Ed wlll start the process.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
