SCARBOROUGH — Helen R. (Ricker) Sylvester, 90, of Maple Avenue, formerly of Old Orchard Beach, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough.

She was born in Reading, Pennsyl-vania, April 30, 1924, a daughter of J. George and Ethel Annie Ehrcke Ricker. She lived most of her life in Old Orchard Beach and Scarborough.

She was the widow of Harold E. Sylvester.

For most of Helen’s adult life, she was employed as a nurse in local hospitals and nursing homes, among them the former Elms Nursing Home in Old Orchard Beach.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the C. Fayette Staples American Legion Post 57 Auxiliary.

Among her enjoyments in life were helping others, spending time with family, bingo and crocheting. She was an avid reader and loved wildlife, flowers and gardening.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by: a son, Thomas Searles.

She was the last surviving sibling of her family; preceding her in death were: her sisters, Virginia, Edna, Juanita and Pearl-Ann; and her brothers, Theodore, Robert, Roland and Perley.

Survivors include: three daughters, Sandra Nolan and her husband Craig of Aventura, Florida, Joan Giancola and her husband Timothy of Scarborough, and Elaine Regan and her husband John of Old Orchard Beach; grandchildren, Theresa Lee, Christine Boudreau, Barbara Anne Boudreau, Tiffany Robert, Kristen Gagnon, Matthew Regan and Julia Giancola; three great-grandchildren, Cassandra Garceron, Ryan Baker and Dylan Baker; and a great-great-grandson, Oliver Garceron.

There will be no visitation. Should friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Salvation Army, P. O. Box 375, Old Orchard Beach, ME 04064. Arrangements are by the Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home, 36 Portland Ave., Old Orchard Beach.
