Any weekend in summer brings a lot of activity and this weekend is no exception. Whether you are getting married, renting a house on the beach or participating in a mini triathlon you want good weather.

Although south of here, the Pan-Mass challenge is a big race for bikers all over New England.

No rider wants to pedal in the rain and there is some good news: depending on the route and the day you are riding, you might make it through the race rain free or at least without any prolonged heavy rain.

Today we have a nice day in store. The chance of rain is slim to none in many areas, although the high resolution model does have a few showers over parts of New Hampshire around 2PM.

If you see a shower today it would be brief and very isolated. If you have the day off, it’s going to be a nice day for the beach with light winds and an abundance of sunshine.

Highs this afternoon will reach the upper 70s to lower 80s and with the added humidity it’s going to feel quite summery. Of course today begins the final month of meteorological summer. During this month the biggest things you will notice are a loss of light and loss of heat. Although many coastal areas haven’t see 90 degree days this summer, the chances of them occurring will further decrease throughout this month.

Inland areas have hit 90F several times, but there too the chances of 90F degree days go down as we get deeper into the month. This is our last weekend of 8PM hour sunsets as we are losing over 2 minutes of daylight each day. The next time the sunsets after 8PM on a weekend is the 16th of May 2015.

You likely noticed it’s a bit muggier today and this is going to continue into the evening. Overnight skies remain partly cloudy with some patchy fog. You might have to put on the air conditioning depending on your tolerance for the moisture in the air.

The frontal system which cleared us out Monday and introduced such a nice stretch of weather this week is going to back westward to the coast this weekend. An area of rain now over the southeastern section of the Atlantic Seaboard will ride north along this front.

The highest risk of rain this weekend is going to be over coastal York and Cumberland Counties. If you are headed to southern New England, Cape Cod will have the greatest chance of a wet period this weekend. If showers do occur in southern Maine they would most likely happen Saturday afternoon. There is a risk again Sunday afternoon, but it’s lower.

Northern and western New England might escape the entire weekend rain free, but there will be an abundance of clouds and temperatures only in the 70s.
Next week looks less unsettled especially after Monday when there is still a risk of a few showers.

Tropical Storm Bertha
We do have our second named storm of the season in the Caribbean this morning. This storm is likely not going to reach hurricane strength as it moves westward and eventually curves right. This path, which can see below, will keep the storm off our coastline next week and poses no threat to the mainland of the United States.

If the storm does remain a tropical system when it passes off our coast, there could be some big waves next week and with a warm and sunny forecast it could be a good time to head to the beach.
