SANFORD — Aline Mercier Cloutier, 94, of Sanford, died on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014 at Newton Center in Sanford.
Aline was born on June 27, 1920, to Amedee and Marie-Ange (Croteau) Mercier in Biddeford, where she grew up and attended local schools.
As a young woman, she worked for several years at the Pepperell Mill in Biddeford before relocating to Sanford. After moving to Sanford, she was employed for many years at Gene’s Bakery, where she was known as the “Cupcake Lady.”
Aline was a devout Catholic and had been a communicant of St. Ignatius Parish in Sanford.
She enjoyed sewing and watching the French station on television. She also enjoyed going “upta camp,” spending time at her cabin on Mousam Lake. She wintered in Florida for many years, where she had been involved in the Maine group. Aline and her husband were antique car enthusiasts. They had owned several antique cars and were active members of the Seacoast Antique Auto Club, participating in many antique car shows and tours. She also enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit many different places over the years. Aline will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Aline was preceded in death by: her husband, Ernest Cloutier; four children, Ronnie Fleurant, Susan Fleurant, Jeannine Munsey and Robert Fleurant; and a sister, Sylvia Bergeron.
Surviving are: her daughter, Ann Neill of Sanford; three grandchildren, Misty Christian and her husband Eric of Nashua, New Hampshire, Robyn Lunsford and her husband Sean of Melrose, Massachusetts, and Dylan Neill of Sanford; five grandchildren, Thomas Christian, Brayden Lambert, Emme Christian, Isabella Tibbetts and Samarah Tibbetts; a niece, Sharon Neylon of Stuart, Florida; and a great-niece, Hillary Neylon of Stuart, Florida.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Newton Center and Hospice of Southern Maine for the care and compassion shown to Aline and her family during her period of declining health.
Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. with a funeral service following at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 8 at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, located at 29 Winter St. in Sanford. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.
