SANFORD — The Center for Grieving Children is looking for volunteer facilitators for its peer-support groups in Sanford.

Facilitators work with children and their families one evening or afternoon a week, depending on the program. All facilitators complete a comprehensive 35-hour training before leading a support group. Facilitators are currently needed for the Tender Living Care Program, for families affected by serious illness; Bereavement Peer Support in both Portland and Sanford; and the Multicultural Peer Support Program.

Volunteer facilitators are asked to make a commitment of one year. Volunteers are subject to background checks, and all potential volunteers must first attend an orientation. In the one-hour orientation session, volunteers will learn about the center’s model of peer support, facilitator training, and each of the center programs.

The next Sanford volunteer orientations are set for 5-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27 and 4-5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10.

Those interested may sign up by calling Sue Calhoun at 775-5216. For more information, visit cgcmaine.org.
