SACO — City Administrator Richard “Rick” Michaud, who was set to retire in December, will stay on for another two years.
Michaud announced in June he would retire on Dec. 31. However, after negotiations with the city council during two recent executive sessions, Michaud has agreed to remain on the job longer.
The council approved a contract Monday evening after an executive session.
Mayor Don Pilon said a number of amendments had been made to the contract, and he wasn’t able to release all the details yet. Pilon said Michaud has agreed to a two-year contract beginning Feb. 1, 2015.
Pilon said Michaud’s salary will stay the same, and he will have “a little bit more” vacation time and will be able to keep his city car. Allowing Michaud to keep the car is a “concession,” as Michaud plans to move to New Hampshire to be closer to family, said Pilon.
City Councilor Eric Cote said in an interview last week that Michaud has been with Saco for 15 years, has a lot of experience with municipal government and is very knowledgeable.
Michaud did not comment on the new agreement.
