That’s What Makes You Beautiful

They say a dad will do almost anything for his daughter, and Ed Gagne is no exception.

It was no secret to any teenage girl that One Direction was coming to Gillette Stadium to perform concerts Aug. 7-9. Ed had already been a cool dad by purchasing tickets to the One Direction concert for his two daughters Emily and Hannah.

But he became the best dad ever when he agreed to enter the WJBQ 97.9 “drag your dad contest.” The task was to dress your dad in whatever women’s clothing you can find and post it on the WJBQ Facebook page, Twitter or Instagram for thousands to see. Hannah and Emily dressed him in a dance costume they had, added some hair and make-up and, voila!, Ed won the tickets and took the girls to One Direction on Thursday where they had a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be that close to the pop band, sitting in seats A1 and A2 only feet from the singers.

A tired but proud Ed was seen the following day getting ice at the Good Life Market sans makeup and only one hour of sleep from the previous night’s event. I think we all would agree Ed Gagne should receive Dad of the Year Award 2014!

Congratulations to Cassidy Gaudet, Morgan Richmond and Ryan Tupper for being selected to receive a 2014 scholarship from the Raymond Lion’s Club. Cassidy completed her freshman year at the University of Vermont studying athletic training and will continue her studies in EMT/Paramedicine. Ryan will attend Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor studying welding. Morgan will be attending Keene State College with a major in secondary education and will also be playing field hockey for Keene State. The scholarship fund is supported by the generosity of the community donating their bottles and cans at designated drop-off sites.

Tri for A Cure

Congratulations to Raymond ladies Carrie Boudreau, Ellen and Emily Gagne, Kathleen Tolman, Rebecca Tracy, Jeri Keane-Dreyer, Crystal Dreyer, Susan and Phoebe Crockett and Karen Johnson for participating and completing the 2014 Tri for a Cure Relay. Some of the ladies teamed up and split the bike, run or swim while others did the entire race.

This was Jeri’s fifth year completing the race and she has decided it will be her last for now. Jeri is 11 years cancer-free. Carrie Boudreau is a two-time breast cancer survivor and completed the entire race with a time of 1:37.10.5. This was Rebecca’s first triathlon and her personal best 5K running time finishing in 29:39.

The ladies raised more than $5,000 for the Maine Cancer Foundation and the fight to find a cure for breast cancer. Tax-deductible donations may still be made under the participant’s name by visiting www.triforacure.org.
