BIDDEFORD — Mayor Alan Casavant and a host of other local celebrities will take a walk down the runway at the Biddeford Ball Saturday night.

The Biddeford Ball will be held at the Pepperell Mill, across from the Happy Dragon Chinese restaurant downtown. The semi-formal affair is the creation of Roxi Suger, a fashion designer and downtown business owner.

Proceeds from the event will benefit local food pantries and renovations to the Marble Block, 129 Main St., which is being transformed into a center for art and design by local nonprofit Engine.

Festivities begin at 7 p.m. with Maker’s Market and a silent auction. These events are free.

Tickets to the rest of the evening’s festivities are $25. For more information, go online to www.suger.me/ball.

The fashion show will begin around 8:30 p.m. Women in the show will wear clothing from Suger’s Angelrox clothing line, and men in the show will be wearing fashions from Portland Dry Goods. After the fashion show will be live music by Old Souls.

Casavant said Saturday will be his first time on a runway, “aside from an airport runway.”

Suger said Thursday that there were about 150 tickets sold, and she is hoping attendance will exceed 200.

“It’s going to be phenomenal,” said Suger. “It’s really shaping up. I’m so excited.”

Suger said giving back to the community is an important part of her business. She moved to Biddeford from New York last year, and has previous experience running fashion shows.

Casavant said he is looking forward to attending the ball Saturday night.

“I just think it’s incredibly creative, fun and targets a good project,” said Casavant. “It’s a win/win.”
