LYMAN — As Dollar General expands its locations to Maine, it’s eyeing Jackson Corner for a potential location.
Dollar General announced in a press release in June that is was planning on expanding to Maine and Rhode Island this fall, and Oregon in early 2015, increasing its presence to 43 states.
Ground recently broke on a Dollar General in North Berwick, according to Town Manager Dwayne Morin.
Dollar General is a discount store that’s been in operation for 75 years, offering products that are frequently used and replenished, such as food, snacks, health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, basic apparel and housewares, according to the company’s press release.
Dollar General has expressed interest in opening a store just west of Jackson Corner on Route 111, said Planning Board Clerk Irene Single.
The proposal was discussed at a recent planning board meeting, but no formal decision has been made, said Single.
The area is zoned commercial, said Single. She said the planning board is interested in the proposal, but had concerns about vehicles entering and exiting the proposed store, as the location is a high-traffic area.
The planning board asked the representative from Dollar General to further review some items, and the planning board wants the code enforcement officer to weigh in, said Single.
