FREEPORT — With deadlines to submit nomination papers approaching, 11 people have taken out papers for eight elected offices in Freeport, while two have done so for the one seat in Yarmouth.

Election Day is Nov. 4

Nomination papers are due back to the Freeport town clerk by Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. Of the 11 people who have taken out papers, only one person has handed them in: Michael Ashby, chairman of the Sewer District Board of Trustees, turned in papers Aug. 19 to seek re-election to one of two open seats on the board.

Gerald Kennedy and Sally Johnson Leland have also taken out papers for seats in the sewer district. Each seat is for a three-year term. The second seat has been vacant since Timothy Whitacre resigned in April.

There are three Town Council seats on the ballot, and papers have been taken out by all three incumbents: Councilor-at-Large Rich DeGrandpre, and Councilors Sarah Tracy and Kristina Egan in Districts 2 and 3, respectively. All are for three-year terms.

There are two, three-year terms up for grabs on the Regional School Unit 5 Board of Directors, and four people have taken out papers: Incumbents Beth Parker and Nelson Larkins, and challengers Charly Haversat and Lindsay Sterling.

Thomas Hudak has taken out papers for a three-year seat on the Water District Board of Trustees. Hudak is also on the Sewer District Board of Trustees, and would hold both positions if elected.

Yarmouth

Nomination papers in Yarmouth are due back to the town clerk by Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. The one open seat is a two-year term on the Town Council, created in June after former council Chairman Steve Woods suddenly resigned.

Papers have been taken out by Joan Dollarhite and Robert Waeldner, but neither has returned them.
