Topsham, like other Maine towns, is threatened by the LePage administration’s continuing and unrelenting efforts to cut programs that help Maine people, especially in education.
In contrast, Denise Tepler and the Democrats are working tirelessly to do more with less, despite the threats and rhetoric coming out of Augusta. Education is not free. From Head Start and Pre-K programs through the public schools and on into college and technical training, it requires continued voter support at the polls for public funding.
Denise and her husband have raised three daughters in the public schools of Topsham. She has served two terms on the school board and been active in the United Way and Big Brothers/Sisters programs as a volunteer. As both chair and vice-chair of the Topsham Finance Committee, she understands all too well the devastating effects that slashing the education budgets can have on our children.
As the representative of House District 54, Denise Tepler will bring badly needed experience of fiscal responsibility and commitment to public education to Augusta. She needs our support in November.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
