SCARBOROUGH – Last week, Scarborough Police Chief Robbie Moulton took on the ice bucket challenge that’s sweeping the nation. The ice bucket challenge is a fundraiser for the ALS Association, a national nonprofit providing research, patient support and other services for people with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
As of Monday the ice bucket challenge had raised nearly $80 million with regular people, as well as celebrities in all industries, from music to movies, also taking part. The idea behind the fundraiser is that participants pay $10 and get a bucket of ice water dumped on them or skip the ice water and pay $100.
Once challenged, a participant has 24 hours to post a video or photos of themselves being doused. Moulton was a good sport and took four buckets of ice water. He did not challenge anyone else, instead doing the challenge in memory of Marsha and Rocky Risbara, Lou and Roberta Maietta, Jean Sandberg and Don Winslow.
