SOUTH PORTLAND — LeRoy A. Green, 79, of South Portland, died Aug. 23 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, surrounded by family and friends.

He was born in Saranac, New York, on Feb. 18, 1935, the son of Agnes and Vernon Green. He attended Saranac Lake High School, and later received his GED diploma in Waterville.

A hard-working man, he was employed by the Madison Paper Mill from 1982-1998, while also pursuing a self-taught trade of repairing TVs and installing rooftop antennas. In 1998, he retired from the mill and moved to South Portland, where he worked at BARD Industries from 1998 to 2013.

Green was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 2399, of Madison, and Council No. 8144, of South Portland. He served as the organization’s state deputy from 1984-1986. For 35 years, he also served as chairman of its Tootsie Roll Drive, which benefits children with disabilities including autism.

A loving, humorous, family-oriented individual, Green enjoyed golf, cards, fishing, hunting, reading and gardening.

He was predeceased by a son, Glen Green; his parents; a brother, Gordon “Skip” Green; and sister Vernetta Green.

He is survived by his wife, Jean (DiMauro) Green; son, Dana and wife, Eileen Green; daughters, Valerie and husband, Pete Plummer Allison and husband, Mike Daigle; daughter-in-law, Natalie (Gemme) Green; grandchildren, Jennifer and husband, Jay Jorgensen, Courtney Green, Neil Plummer and wife, Jemba, Breeyn Green, Brittany (Plummer) Cabana and husband, William, Jason Green, Jackie Green, Justin Daigle and Faith Daigle; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Clayton Green and Nathan Green; and sisters, Shirley Vincent and Tina Green.

Visiting hours were held Aug. 26 and a Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Aug. 27 at Holy Cross Church, in South Portland. Committal followed at Cavalry Cemetery, in South Portland.
