BIDDEFORD TIGERS
Coach: Ruth Shaw (13th year)
Last year’s results: 8-8, lost in Class A quarterfinals
Key returning players: Seniors, Bri Collard (libero), Kayla Fournier (setter); junior, Jocelyn Moody (outside hitter); sophomore, Kendra Cote (middle hitter)
Key newcomers: Sophomore, Faith Tourigny (setter)
Coach’s outlook: “As usual, we will be in contention for playoffs, as will Falmouth and Greely. Our schedule is not a strong as I would have like as we only play them once instead of twice. Either way, we are going to have to keep our focus and make sure we bring our best game each and every competition.”
KENNEBUNK RAMS
Coach: Craig Richardson (10th year)
Last year’s results: 7-9, lost in Class A quarterfinals
Key returning players: Seniors, Sarah Bradley (setter), Meg Dube (middle hitter), Kaleigh Haroldsen (setter); junior, Julia Towne (outside hitter)
Key newcomers: None
Coach’s outlook: “The starting lineup will look a lot like last year, but with another year of experience. Captains Sarah Bradley, Meg Dube and Kaleigh Haroldsen along with Julia Towne all played in the Junior Olympics program through the winter and have developed a wealth of volleyball knowledge that has made them better, smarter players.
That, along with strong serving should help us win those games that are close. We made the playoffs last year and I’m expecting to make a return trip this year as long as we play at our best through the season.”
THORNTON ACADEMY GOLDEN TROJANS
Coach: Keith O’Leary (second year)
Last year’s results: 1-13
Key returning players: Seniors, Hannah Maddix (setter); juniors, Kylemore Austin (outside hitter), Kaylie Burns (outside hitter), Allison Cannon (outside hitter), Ashley Howe (outside hitter)
Key newcomers: Freshman, Dianne Dervis (back row)
Coach’s outlook: “2014 is our sophomore season. We have a young, athletic, committed team with a varsity season under our belt. We have some offensive threat from Ashley Howe and Kylemore Austin and have developed some defensive competence. Our goal is to make the playoffs this year in the midst of a very competitive conference.”
