PORTLAND (AP) — Maine officials are giving $158,874 to seven environmental projects in communities along the state’s coast.
The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry says the projects will support coastal habitat restoration, stormwater management and hazard resilience. Five of the projects are located in Eastport, Cape Elizabeth, Ellsworth, Warren and Phippsburg. The state is awarding the other grants to the Hancock County Planning Commission and Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission.
Warren is slated to get the largest grant of the seven. The grant is a $34,965 award to assess two blocked culverts that lie in the St. George River watershed.
The grants are from Maine’s federal coastal management award from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration.
