CAPE ELIZABETH — Clare Frances Buccigross, 96, of Cape Elizabeth, died Aug. 28 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Buccigross was born May 8, 1918, in Boston, a daughter of James B. and Hazel Scott Freeburn. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Newton High School. She attended Lasell Junior College and Pierce Secretarial School in Boston.

In 1943, she married Joseph J. Buccigross and began raising their family. She also worked as a clerk typist for a law firm.

Buccigross was an active communicant of St. Bartholomew Parish.

After summering in Cape Elizabeth throughout her life, Buccigross moved permanently to Cape Elizabeth in 1976. She resided there until moving to an assisted living facility in Portland.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1964. Surviving are a daughter, Joanne Hale, of Portland; a son, U.S. Army Col. Paul J. Buccigross (Retired), of Fairbanks, Alaska; two sisters, Florence C. Johnson, of Cape Elizabeth, and Rita Bernhardt, of Falmouth, Massachusetts; a brother, Robert J. Freeburn, of Marco Island, Florida; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Aug. 30 at St. Bartholomew Church, in Cape Elizabeth. Burial arrangements were private.
