BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — The Portland Sea Dogs (1-1) powered up and tied the Eastern Division series with a 7-0 win over the Binghamton Mets (1-1) at NYSEG Stadium on Thursday.

The next three games are at Portland in the best-of-five series, with game three tonight and the fourth game on Saturday.

The Sea Dogs quickly shook off the walk-off loss from the night prior and broke out in a huge way against Greg Peavey and the Mets.

After stranding two runners in the first, Portland jumped into the lead in the second on a Stefan Welch home run. The inning continued with two outs when Mike Brenly reached on an error. Shannon Wilkerson followed with an RBI triple, and a throwing error allowed Wilkerson to score for a 3-0 lead.

The Sea Dogs were not through. Mike Miller kept things going with a single and Sean Coyle launched his second home run of the series for a 5-0 advantage.

Portland pitcher Justin Haley was dominant on the hill. He went six shutout innings on five hits, one walk and eight strikeouts.

Peavey was roughed up again in the third as Welch homered for a second time for a 6-0 Portland lead. Keury De La Cruz finished off the scoring with a home run in the fifth.

Eduardo Rodriguez takes the mound tonight for Portland against Binghamton’s Steven Matz. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
