The Biddeford Spring Breakaway Cruise 2015 information night is set for Sept. 10 at the BHS Auditorium (Tiger Gym Entrance) at 6 p.m. All the details of the ship and destinations will be given. A veterans services officer from the Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services will be available from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Saco City Hall to assist veterans and their dependents.

Friday, Sept. 12

The Picnic in the Park Summer Concert Series, held in Sanford’s Central Park, will feature Matthew Lister on Friday, Sept. 12. Concerts are free to the public, and take place from noon to 1 p.m. People may bring chairs or blankets and food. If it’s raining, there will be no concert.

Old Orchard Beach’s 21st annual Car Show on Sept. 12-13 will feature many divisions with trophies and awards as well as entertainment. The Friday night lineup on Main Street is followed by a parade and car show on Saturday. For more information, call 934-2500.

Saturday, Sept. 13

The sixth annual Chili, Chowda & Apple Dessert Contest, sponsored by the Waterborough Historical Society, will be held at the Grange Hall, 31 West Road in South Waterboro, on Saturday, Sept. 13. Judging starts at 4:30 p.m. after which the public tasting will begin at 5 p.m. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded in all three categories at 6 p.m. Contest food will be accepted between 4-4:30 p.m. Chilis and chowdas need to arrive hot in slow-cookers. The sixth annual Family Jamboree, hosted by The Wells Chamber of Commerce, is set for Saturday, Sept. 13 at Spiller Farm, 1054 Branch Road in Wells, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (fair weather only). This event features hay rides, games and prizes, activity tents and craft vendors. Food will be available for purchase. Admission, parking and all games and activities are free. A bean supper will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, 4:45-6:30 p.m., at St. Joseph Church in the downstairs hall, Elm Street, Biddeford. The supper includes white and kidney beans, American chop suey, hot dogs, ham, coleslaw, bread, coffee and soft drinks, and dessert. The suggested donation for adults is $8 and $4 for children younger than 12. This supper will benefit the Good Shepherd Parish. Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution is hosting a free shredding event at its branch in Scarborough on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Community members and businesses are encouraged to join the fight against identity theft by bringing up to two boxes of documents ”“ canceled checks, old bills and invoices, medical records, etc. ”“ for safe and confidential shredding. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for the Scarborough Food Pantry. Bring a cash or food donation and receive a free gift while supplies last.

A baked haddock dinner will be served on Sept. 13 from 4:30-6 p.m. at Second Congregational Church, 19 Crescent St., Biddeford.

Tuesday, Sept. 16

York County Audubon evening program, “All About Bluebirds” with John Rogers, will be Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Mather Auditorium of the Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm. Rogers has maintained a trail of bluebird nest boxes for four decades and has fledged more than 13,000 bluebirds in boxes he personally monitors. His presentation will include the life history of the Eastern bluebird, other birds that nest in bluebird boxes, and nest box management. The focus is on bluebirds, but Rogers will also discuss his passion for the natural world. Evening programs are free, open to all and no reservations are needed. Meetings are held in the Mather Auditorium at Wells Reserve, 342 Laudholm Farm Road in Wells.
