WATERVILLE — The Bates College men’s cross country team got the 2014 season off to an impressive start, tying higher-ranked Colby on its home course in the rivals’ annual Bates/ Colby Class Races.
The unique meet features a Junior/Senior race and a First-Year/Sophomore race. Under the races’ modified scoring system, the higher score wins, the top five runners on both sides score, and there are no displacements. Bates won the Junior/ Senior race by one point, 28- 27, while Colby took the First Year/Sophomore race by the same score for a 55-55 tie overall.
Bates junior Taylor Saucier of Freeport finished seventh in 16:03.52.
The Bobcats are scheduled to compete in the Bowdoin Invitational on Sept. 27 at 11 a.m.
